CHARLES DARWIN'S EFFECT

Goa Police suspect the couple - Anand, 39, and Deepa Ranthidevan, 36, professionals, committed suicide on October 3, 2011. Their suicide note read, "We have lived a very eventful and happy life together. We've travelled the world, lived in different countries, made more money than we ever thought possible, and enjoyed spending as much of it as we could on things that brought us joy and satisfaction. We believe in the philosophy that our life belongs to us and only us, and we have the right to choose to die as much as we have the right to live." They have left Rs.10000 cash for their cremation expenses and listed the assets they own, with a declaration that they have no liabilities or debts.
This couple seemed to be well educated, earning tons of money, having had great experiences of visiting several countries, and living happily. They claimed to have lived a joyful and satisfactory life. Then why did they commit suicide? It was not frustration or pain or struggle or loneliness or financial crisis, but a flawed worldview of life. They believed in a philosophy that their life belonged to them alone and they had the right to choose death or life. Sadly, their philosophy is derived from their understanding of a theory in science known as the Theory of Evolution. Though just a theory, it is taught in schools and colleges as fact or scientific truth.
Charles Darwin rejects God as creator and claims that the origin of all species is by progressive, incremental evolution. Human beings were not created as unique and special, in the image of God. The Genesis 1:27 account of creation of human beings is rejected. Instead, the theory postulates that human beings evolved from an ape or some other sub-human being. Since human beings have no Creator, they have the freedom to create their own god. Unfortunately for this couple, they became a god for themselves. They occupied God's place!
Their purpose in life was to please themselves, enjoy life, experience novelty by visiting many countries and earn more money than they needed. Though they claimed satisfaction, the suicide was actually the result of dissatisfaction and frustration in their minds and hearts despite gaining everything this world offered.
The couple also claimed that they had the right to choose life or death. According to their philosophy, the right is not bestowed or given as a gift but is inherent in human beings. So, they thought they were their own arbitrator and judge! This flawed thinking led to their false assumption that there is no creator and that they are not accountable to anyone but themselves. This godless philosophy also assumes that if there is no creator there is no law-giver, and therefore there are no moral values and absolute truths to be embraced by the 'evolved beings'. Each person has the right to choose and live by his/her own moral standards. The bottom line is this: there is no giver of life, so there is no question of our being accountable to 'somebody' outside of us! We can do whatever we like even take our own lives without feeling any guilt!
The couple who committed suicide had individualism as their creed. They alienated themselves from society and from God. They thought they were not obligated to fellow-humans. Today's educated people prefer to be independent rather than dependent or inter-dependent. They like to create their own islands or domains in their own imaginations and rule over them.
According to Charles Darwin's philosophy of 'survival of the fittest', the weak and vulnerable do not have any rights, nor do they have any reason to exist. Human relationships are controlled by domination and oppression. So, relationships are abusive, manipulative and exploitative. Meaningful, healthy, mutually beneficial relationships have no place in such a barbaric society.
Interestingly, it seems the couple did not have children. Maybe they belonged to the new generation called DINK (Double Income No Kids). Professionals, who are obsessed with their career, prefer not to have kids. Family is sacrificed at the altar of personal progress. They do not prefer to be in a committed relationship with anyone, even with their kids. In a healthy family, kids provide meaning to life and a hope for the future. As 'sophisticated' young professionals, they opted not to have kids, and hence had no future.
It is indeed sad to see the new generation in India embracing the post-modern philosophy which is founded on the Theory of Evolution. A mind shaped by such godless philosophies becomes warped and is engulfed in deadly spiritual darkness.
In a frightening, Satan-dominated world, the challenge before the church of Christ is to share and teach God's life-transforming word which is able to transform Satan's victims by the renewing of their minds so that they will know there indeed is a wise, sovereign, creator God who made them in His own image and that He has definite plans for them! (Rom.12:2).
