FREEDOM FROM DEBT TRAP
As we look around, we see everywhere signs of collapse. The rationalistic ideologies have failed, the reign of communist tyranny has failed, the materialistic systems of American style wealth building have failed, and the global stock exchange has failed. On October 22, 2008, India was counting to the launch of Chandrayaan. On the 24th, there was a countdown of quite another sort as the day's trading in stocks came to an end. Battered investors were left taking stock of damage. Today it is a global phenomenon.
But the source of our renewal remains, and there is hope. The kingdom of heaven has not failed, and Jesus Christ has not failed. In that truth alone, we have reasons to hope that the future can be a promising era of freedom and truth. We are ordained to build our future only trusting in Him.
Why do people spend more than they have? Usually because they are trying to emulate someone else's life-style, to spend more. The banks equip us with the credit card-buy now, pay later. Constantly, we are tempted to live beyond our means and the money monster makes sure we give in.
More Blessed To Give
That is not what God wants for us. He wants us to live a debt-free life. He says, "Do not owe people anything except always to love each other." He wants us to experience financial authenticity. He wants us to control our money, rather than let money control us. He wants us to be free from indebtedness and the fear that an unexpected expense could sink our ship. He wants us to live within our means and have future expenditure planned for. He wants us to have enough funds to share with the needy. He wants us to master the money monster.
One of the most important steps in financial freedom is to give. He says it is more blessed to give than to receive. First He gave-He gave us His only begotten Son. So, with Jesus, God will surely give us all things. In Luke 6:38 we read, "Give and you will receive; you will be given much: pressed down, shaken together and running over, it will spill into your lap. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you." We are only giving what He gave us; we are only channels of His blessing. If we refuse to be His channel, His blessing will flow through other channels. His blessing will continue to flow because His business is to bless.
In 2 Corinthians 9:6 we read, "The person who plants a little will have a small harvest, but the person who plants a lot will have a big harvest. Each one should give as you have decided in your heart to give. You should not be sad when you give and should not give because you feel forced to give. God loves the person who gives happily. And God can give you more blessings than you need. Then you will always have plenty of everything enough to give to every good work." He gives us so that we can give to the good work. In Philippians 4:18 Paul says that the gift given to him by the Philippians is like a sweet smelling sacrifice offered to God, who accepts that sacrifice and is pleased with it. "My God will use the wonderful riches in Christ Jesus to give you everything you need." When we give to the saints of God, we are making a deposit in the heavenly bank. The World Bank will fail, but our Heavenly Bank will not. He is alpha and omega of our finance; the Reserve Bank is not the final authority.
Malachi 3:10 challenges us saying, "Bring to the storehouse a full tenth of what you earn so that there will be food in My house. Test Me in this," says the Lord All-powerful. "I will open the windows for you and pour out all the blessings you need." Let us return to the heavenly financial system to be free financially.
